Day 1

So jetlag is fun. Keiko managed the tickets and phone calls and the public transportation to get to our apartment in Jiyugaoka. We're loving every minute of it so far.

We had an hour and a half bus ride from the airport (where the two of us sloppily and uncomfortably napped) to a hotel where Nagano-san picked us up and took us to dinner, to one of the restaurants she owns. We had 4 courses of amazing traditional Japanese dishes.

Melinda got hit on big-time by a Japanese guy who is apparently an award-winning hairdresser, who then spilled wine all over her, a combination of clumsiness from being drunk and excited to talk to foreigners in his very broken English. He kept talking to Melinda as if she knew what he was saying, but really no one had a clue what he meant.

Keiko helped translate his verbal moves. "Are you married?" "Do you like Japanese men?" "Do you have a boyfriend?" (I said yes) "Do you like your boyfriend?" (I said yes.) Then the spilling of his wine onto Melinda's shirt occurred. "Sorry," he said.

We went straight to checking email, showering, and sleeping...Crossing our fingers that Jet-lag won't be too bad in the morning...
